Today, the Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres, 3-1. But they finished off the Padres in this 3-game series, 2-1 games. Rebecca Lippman came today, and we worked for almost 1:15 on making my cue cards (flash cards) for all my formulas in solid geometry. At dinner, mom tested me, and I got most of them. We counted and I have 31 formulas. Tomorrow is Dad's birthday, and mom and I were talking about what I was going to buy for him. I have an excellent idea, but I'll tell you tomorrow!

Today, the Dodgers played the Padres again, and wiped them out, 10-2. But, even though they're doing pretty well, they're still in third place by 1½ games. Well, it was back to school after a super 3-day weekend. Mr. Farnsworth had not corrected our tests yet (which is no surprise), but he did tell us that we were having one of our toughest tests on plane and solid geometry! So, when I got home, I asked Dad to get my tutor to come tomorrow. She'll be there as soon as I get home tomorrow afternoon.

Today was the last holiday in this school-year — Memorial Day. It was very, very hot around the Palisades, and just boiling at Dodger Stadium. Oh, that's right! I went to the Dodger game! Well, at least ⅔ of it! You see, we got stuck in the holiday traffic. We finally made it ot the game in the top of the 3rd. The Dodgers won 9-6, but it didn't do any good because so did the Giants. They beat the Astros 8-1 on t.v.

Today, the Dodgers lost again in San Francisco, 6-5. It was the 5th 1-run game this season. Do you know how many they've played? Exactly 5! I didn't see the Jones' today until around 10:00 P.M., because they had been at their new house all day. They say they really enjoy the house, and Carole is happy because she can see Mt. Baldy from her bedroom window. There's only 1 thing I don't like about their new house. It's in a big tract!

Today the Dodgers won (for a change). They beat the San Francisco Giants to fall within 1½ games out of 1st place. The Jones' are going to move all their stuff themselves, so, I got up around 7:30 A.M. and started loading the books in their house into the little pickup they're using. We had a quick breakfast of hamburger patties and baked beans, and went to Cucamonga and unloaded all the stuff. When we got home, Carole, Chris, Mom and I all went to the beach in 82˚ weather. We came home and invited the whole Jones' family over for an outdoor barbecue. We had a super time!

Today the Dodgers played the San Francisco Giants, who happen to be the top team in Baseball. Of course, they lost 6-1. Today was our cast party on the beach. Almost everybody was there, and we were out there til 10:00 P.M. Rebecca, Evonne and me were playing tackle football, to close to the water, and the wave tackled us! Later on, my niece, Tina, and I sang songs while I played the guitar. We did almost all the songs I know, & even some of my very old songs that I learned back in '76, such as my dad's favorite, "Feelings."

***

Despite my best efforts (I mean, tackle football? Is that a smooth move or WHAT?), I was not able to woo Evonne at the cast party. I'm sure my stirring rendition of Morris Albert's sappy hit did nothing to help my image. (I mean, my Dad really lobbied for me to play that song at every opportunity. I think it was his way of making sure I didn't have a serious girlfriend.)

There is also only 1 more day til Memorial Day holiday on Monday, when we go see the Dodgers play the Padres at Dodger Stadium. It will be cap night and we'll all get free caps. Then, the unfortuneate countdown that Just keeps running through my head. In 1 week, The Jones' will be leaving us for Cucamonga.

Today we played the Orioles in Little League. It was a pretty good game, but not good enough to beat them. We lost 13-7, and our errors did it to us again. Our ace pitcher, Dave Schroeder, couldn't pitch because he said he messed his arm up on his Paper Route. (Likely Story) So David Boyle started. They got 7 runs (5 unearned) in the 1st inning, and they had it the rest of the time. Then I pitched 3 shutout innings, and David Boyle came back in for the last 2. They got 6 more (3 unearned that inning). I singled once.

They lost to the San Diego Padres, 3-2, and all of San Diego's runs were unearned! Rebecca was home when I got there, and she had been looking over some of my papers and correcting them. Today, I was very tired, because I've been up til almost 12:00, for the last 2 weeks. As soon as I got home, I took another 1 of my 2-hour naps. Now I feel almost back-to-normal. It also felt strange being home tonight. This is the first time since April 29 that we haven't either been rehearsing or doing a show at night! I found out at school today that we are having a very important test on Thursday. It will be on plane geometry. So, I told mother that I would need my tutor, Rebecca Lippman to help me. I know she was right about the emotional part. As we walked out for the curtain call, I happened to glance over at her. Tears were streaming down her face! Today was a very big day! The cast was due at the church at 1:30 to do a 2:30 matinee. Everything ran smoothly in the performance, but my part was not as good as it could have been. I was not as loud as my others, and my grandmother made that definite. Then we had a 5:30 P.M. dinner, and got on the subject of a cast party. We plan to have one Friday at the beach. Then at 8:00, we did another performance. This was our best performance, and mine, too! This is the first time we've tried 2 performances in one day. Our crowds haven't been too tremendous, but today we had our biggest. 78 people.

Today the performance of "Mama" was not as good as yesterday, although my performance was much better. (No blankets got stuck under the wheels) I did see one girl that sat in the very front row who was very beautiful! I'd been watching her for most of the show. I pointed her out to David Zacker who is in the cast, and he said, "Oh, you mean Wally Burn's daughter?" He was the male lead. After the show, Wally organized a meeting with she and her mother. Yes, she was very, very beautiful. More beautiful than she was in the audience. Her name is Evonne.

★ Highlight Day

Today was opening night. My first scene went very well except for one minor problem. You see, I have to go out on stage in a wheelchair with a blanket over me. I had to also stick my leg straight out and make it look like it's in a cast. When I was wheeled out on stage, the blanket suddenly got caught on the wheel, and it almost went right under the wheelchair! I barely hung on to it, but it stayed on. Incidently, I owe Rebecca one drink She wasn't nervous!

The Dodgers, even after that close loss yesterday came back with a 7-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was a very exciting game, and the Dodgers won it in the bottom of the ninth with three runs. Today, we were not as lucky in baseball as we were yesterday. The first inning was fine, but after that, oh boy! I wish we could play it over. I pitched 2 good innings of baseball, had a 2-run RBI double, and a lousy game. We lost 9-2, and they got 8 runs off us again, just like before. Errors! I saved our team from getting our first shutout in 3 years with my double with men on 2nd and 3rd in the last inning with 2 men out. I'm now batting .217!

Today, we did it! We beat the Indians! I can't believe that we did. I, unfortuneately, did not help the team with my batting, but I pitched a good inning. They had to take me out because I injured my leg when a ball was slammed into my ankle. I saw it coming, and the next thing I remember is me on the ground with my foot sticking up in the air. About 8 seconds later, the pain started — and it was pain! I walked the next batter, and then he took me out. Oh, by the way, the score was 8 to 4!

Today, the shortstop, Ron Schlessinger and I are getting excited about tomorrow's game against the Indians. As you might recall, on the 25th of March, we played this same team in practice season, and lost 7-6. But that was because our 3rd baseman had to pitch, because we didn't have anyone else, and he walked 9 batters in a row. Otherwise, we would of beat them. Ron figures we can beat them by at least 5 runs, if my pitching is affective enough. It was very affective last time.

Today, it got up to a sweltering 88 on the red mercury. But it was nice because Dad called off the rehearsal because we were doing so well! He says that my part of Arne will be very good if I can just speak up a little louder. Since there was no rehearsal, Mom (or should I say Mama) didn't have to study her lines. So we went to Zucky's to eat. Then we went to the beach and played all sorts of ball games, and skipped rocks on the water, and romped around on the beach, and met people, and did everything you do at dusk on the beach. (Except didn't make out on the beach like all the other teenagers we know.)
