Nothing Much Else Happened: February 28, 1978

Today was rain, rain, rain, and more rain. I didn't go to school right away because I was getting braces this morning. I already have a quadrahelix on the roof of my mouth, and I have braces on the bottom, too. So, they gave me what I have on the bottom, on top. But they didn't put the wire that pulled them into place on yet. The dentist also tightened my lowers, and boy, do they hurt! I had trouble spitting out the toothpaste when I was brushing my teeth!

Today, it has started raining again. School was pretty dull, and I didn't dress for P.E. because I have this cold. Nothing happened when I got home, so I went out and played with Carole, and listened to records. I went to bed early because I was very tired. But Before I went to bed, I read out of some of my new Tarzan book, "Tarzan, the Untamed." I started it 4 days ago after I finished "Alice In Wonderland." But, I still have to do the latter for a fantasy book report in English class.

***

I hope that I didn't construct a sentence like that last one in the book report whenever I wrote it. And interesting that there's no mention of all that today is my mother's birthday.

Today was wonderful because I didn't have to go to church! I slept until 10:15, had breakfast, and got ready for the last performance of "Harvey." It went very well, but I wasn't invited to the cast party afterwards. (Boo-hoo) Then I came home and did practically nothing except watch t.v. for the rest of the day, since we got home about 5:30.

★ Highlight Day

Today was the biggest day I've had all year. We got up at 6:00, and Dad brought the Richerts to the airport. At 10:00, I went bowling and did pretty god. I got a 109, a 124, and a 137. At 11:15, I went to school, so we could go whale watching. I really enjoyed it, and it was very exciting to watch the whales blow air out of their blowholes. When we came back to school, dad packed me up, and we went home. I got ready, and David Lewin and I went to the play and handed out programs and helped people, like we did last night.

Today, I didn't go to school, except for my period 2 Math class. After I got out of school, Dand and I went to a store and bought Birthday cards for Mom and signed them. And then we sent them off to Mother, who left for Florida this morning. Oh, I forgot to tell you about her departure. Well, it was nothing special. Dad and I got up, took mother to the airport, and dropped her off. Later in the afternoon, our friends, the Richerts came. They are leaving for Africa with their 7-year-old daughter, Janna in the morning.

Today, I missed school completely — just stayed home and rested. But since tomorrow's Friday, I have to go to school because I have to take a test in English and History. Since I stayed home, I wasn't able to go to the opening night of "Harvey". I hope it's doing alright. (It's on right now.) This is the first time I've ever missed an opening night of one of my dad's shows. Tomorrow, mother leaves for Florida on her yearly trip to Florida. I can't bear to see her go. Grandma is coming over while mom is gone.

Today was another of those "very strange" days. I went to my 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th classews, and came home at lunch. Then I sunbathed some more and read a lot of my "Alice In Wonderland" book. I'm just about done with it, and when I finish, I will do a book report about it for English class. My mother also had a conference with my math teacher, Mr. Farnsworth, and he says that I'm "a worry-wart." Right now, we are studying geometry, and I think I am getting it, although I lost a math book that we are working in. (Oh-oh)

Today was a very strange day. When I woke up, I felt worse than before. So, my mother decided that I stay home, except for my math class. So, that's exactly what I did. I slept in until 8:00, got ready and went to school at 9:00. When math was over, I left school around 10:15. Then, my mom and I went downtown and bought some sponges, came home, and I sunbathed for the better part of the day. I also read alot and worked on my sewing project for school.

Today was another holiday! I went bowling, and had the greatest day I ever had bowled. I had a 109, 158, 137, and 120! My average was 131 — the highest average I've ever had in a single day! My overall average is 106. I came home and didn't do a thing except play with the kids. They're over their flu, and seem as good as ever. I wish I was over my cough. I still feel lousy. Well, tomorrow I have to go back to school — blech. I don't want to go back!

After that, Mom, Dad and I went to the rehearsal for "Harvey." The show opens in 4 days, and I think it's not going to be as good as we've done before. Today, I kicked off the 3-day weekend by bowling a 91, 104, and a 139. I payed my money, so now I'm going to bowl in the city tournament. I had to have the "Magic Club" meeting by myself because Carole and Chris have the flu. We now have $5.87 in the treasury. Tonight, Colette Matthews, one of my mother's old school friends, and a school teacher herself, brought a chocolate cake over and had dinner with us. Then after that, I went to bed.

By PE, I was so messed up that I couldn't dress for gym. When I came home, We went to my guitar lesson and made it through. Then I came home, ate dinner, and here I am at 7:15 p.m. going to sleep. Today I was rather tired. For some reason, I didn't sleep well. I think it's because I had a breath-taking dream last night. It is explained on my "dream" section in the back of this diary. Math was impossible today. So, I brought my math book home, and had dad and Mr. Jones study it to help me. I guess I'll get about 5% of the questions on tomorrow's test. Then, it will be another 3-day weekend, because it will be Washington's Birthday.

***

Here is the entry in the back of the diary, from the "dream section:"

Feb. 15th: I dreamt that — now, wait a minute. First, let me tell you why I probably dreamt this. You see, I'm reading "Alice In Wonderland" for a school book report. In the beginning of the story, Alice falls down a rabbit hole, and falls for about 30 minutes. I dreamed that Carole, Chris, Mrs. Jones and I were running through this rock maze. We found a cliff, and about 90 feet down, and about 15 feet to the left, there was a pool of red water. It was our only means of escape, so we had to jump. I jumped first, landed squarely in the middle of the pool — and that's when I woke up.

This morning, I gave my mother her Valentine. It was a ticket book full of interesting tickets with interesting things, such as "Good for one good backrub!" Not a single thing happened at school today. So when I came home, there was nothing to do. But I'm having real problems in Math, and there's danger of my grade dropping.

I only got 10 of my 12 albums, so they sent me 2 free selections. I sent away for them right away. If it takes the same time as last time, it will be here around March 19th. (Not the same discussed on Feb. 2nd) They were climbing all over me, and kissing me, and I don't know why. When I came in, Laura called up. She wanted to know if we did break up. I said, "Yes." That night, Laura kept calling me, and finally I got her sister, Leslie, on the phone. I said, "I don't want to hurt Laura's feelings, so you do it. We're breaking up." And I hung up.
